As part of the government’s statewide $35m Medical Equipment Grant, Alfred Health will receive a replacement MRI Unit, replacement CT unit, two echocardiography units with 3D imaging, and an angiographic-fluoroscopy unit.

Chief Executive Alfred Health, Professor Andrew Way said the funding would ensure patients continue to benefit from the latest innovations in medical technology.

“This funding for new technology is a wonderful outcome for Alfred Health and will help to deliver safer care, more accurate diagnoses and ultimately better health outcomes for our patients.”

Alfred Health’s Head of MRI, Dr Anthony Kam said acquiring the latest technology is vital in giving patients the best possible outcomes.

Dr Kam said advancements in technology have allowed radiologists to constantly improve the accuracy and timeliness of their diagnosis.

“Newer scanners, modern scan techniques together with smart contrast agents have given radiologists capabilities that were simply not available a few years ago.”

“This new equipment will mean we can make our services available to more people who need it.”

The Alfred will be among 20 hospitals across Victoria to share in the $35 million funding to replace lifesaving medical equipment with the latest state-of-the art models.
