An Alfred nurse with a strong focus on patient advocacy and safety has been named one of the finalists in the 2015 HESTA Australian Nursing Awards.

Carly Firman was recognised as one of the five finalists in the Outstanding Graduate category for her insightful and high quality care of patients under a team-nursing model.

Carly's work on Ward 7West was praised for her interpersonal skills with colleagues, putting patients first and ability to care for very challenging and acute patients.  

Since completing her graduate program, Carly has been engaged as ‘preceptor' to new graduate nurses and has readily developed a rapport with colleagues in her new mentoring role.

The winners will be revealed at the HESTA Australian Nursing Awards dinner on Thursday, 15 October in Brisbane.
