While most of us were rugged up during Saturday’s cold wet weather, 40 cyclists began a marathon bike ride to raise more than $130,000 for Sandringham Hospital.
At midday on Saturday, Bayside Mayor Felicity Frederico and Sandringham Hospital Director of Nursing, Judy Reeves sounded the horn to trigger the first lap of the 24-hour bike ride from Black Rock to Mordialloc.
Topping this year’s fundraising effort was Alistair Murray, who raised attracted more than $24, 000. A special mention goes to the youngest rider, 15 year old Jack Furey, who exceeded his $1,000 target and raised $1,441.
Judy Reeves commented, “we are so proud of what the riders have achieved. The support that everyone involved has shown – from the food providers to the event masseurs – is very humbling.”
The silent auction to support the ride is open until 15 September 2015. Visit http://www.prg24hr.org/auction/ for more information.
